Who we are
The Fundação Faialense (Faial Foundation) was born from a meeting held on May 17, 1969, at the Clube União Faialense, in New Bedford, called by the late Father Manuel Garcia, with the aim of obtaining support for the formation of an organization with charitable purposes and supporting the education of young people on the island of Faial through scholarships.
The first scholarship was awarded in 1972. Eight years later, the Foundation decided to also award scholarships to students in the United States with Faial roots or who have a connection to the organization or its members.
To date, the Fundação has awarded 465 Scholarships to 224 Students in the amount of $480,500.
